The European Process Safety Centre (EPSC) is an industry-funded network which exists to provide an independent forum for the leadership and support of process safety within Europe.
EPSC was founded in 1992 by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE), with the encouragement of CEFIC (Conseil Européen des Fédérations de l'Industrie Chimique). When EPSC was founded, it was agreed that the Centre should be established by one of the EFCE member societies, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in the UK. Until the end of 2016 IChemE provided facilities and services for the Centre.
From 2017 onwards EPSC activities are now being continued in the form of an independent organisation. EFCE and DECHEMA (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology) acted as founding members for EPSC as a new legal entity. EPSC is now officially registered as an international not for profit organisation (IVZW) in Belgium. The EPSC secretariat was managed by DECHEMA till the 1st of April 2025. From April 1st, the secretariat will be managed by MOSbv.
The Centre's membership consisting of manufacturers, contractors, consultants and academic institutions represents a significant part of the process safety community in Europe.
